Spectator / Cheer Zones

Find the best place to sit and cheer on the Med City runners!

TIME TO SUPPORT YOUR RUNNERS!

Best case scenario…. Have more than 1 person in your vehicle! 1 person directs, other person drives safely! If it’s just you in a vehicle checking out a few of these hot spots…. PLEASE make sure to simply take a minute to punch in your GPS spots (have them ready ahead of time) before driving. Biking is also ok, but PLEASE make sure to avoid the trails that the race course is using.

TerraLoco is hosting two cheer zones this year to help support runners at some of the tougher spots on the course!

They’ll be at Soldiers Field Park, at approximately mile 25.5 for the marathoners and mile 12.5 for the half marathoners – these are the same location! With support from Brooks Running with cowbells and sign making materials, and from Honey Stinger, who sent a bunch of nutrition for the runners.

LOCATIONS!

Great spot to catch runners as they are just about to enter the Zumbro River Trail system. Once runners begin entering this area, it will be difficult to get to the Bamber Valley School side of the course, therefore we recommend accessing via Mayowood Rd and Salem Rd from the West and NW of the course

Just up the road from Bamber Valley School, this park area gives you direct access to the trail system that runners are on. NOTE: The trail is only so wide, so please be very mindful to spread out if you are cheering on here and to not get in any runners way.

Near Mile 10, just up the road from John Withers Sports Complex. Direct access to the trail, but more open areas for more spread out viewing.

Ample parking across the street in the lot near 9th St SE. Use crosswalk to access trail route. You can move freely along the paved trail route here for cheering along the river trail and around the golf course

Surrounding neighborhoods offer great street parking. You may move freely around this area to cheer on runners. Half marathoners split away from the Marathoners along the trail near here.

Large open field to move along and cheer on your runners in the middle of their race. Parking is a bit removed in the neighborhoods, so plan to be here at least 5 minutes earlier to give yourself time.

These neighborhoods are great for street parking offer a long stretch of road that runners are using. As well, go hang out and cheer near the water stop on 7th St NE, hosted at our friend Dan’s house! NOTE: Runners do eventually cross the road on 14th Ave NE to get back onto 7th, meaning it can be difficult for vehicles to follow along with the runners after this. Please head north and find a route that is away from the course if you are planning to travel to this area.

Great viewing of runners along the entire Silver Lake Park area that gives you ample room to move with and cheer your runners before they cross the road and enter the trails on Cascade Creek. Parking is on the south side of 7th St NE. Use crosswalk to cross over to the course side of the street before the footbridge. After the foot bridge, there is a parking lot W Silver Lake Drive

Parking lot on 7th St NW that gives you great access to the trails on the East side of the park

Kutzky Park East is smaller park with street parking, access via Civic Center Dr NW. Limited spaces here, but does give you a good stretch to connect with your runners. Runners cross over 11th Ave NW with police assistance stopping traffic. On the north side of the course, there is a small parking lot on the East side of the road at the entrance of Kutzky Park. We do not recommend counting on this area for parking to see your runners. However, this trail area offers a very nice open space to see your runners. You may use street parking on the SOUTH side of the course, but it will be difficult to access the course via 11th Ave NW in lieu of the crossing. Best way to cross the course from the North side to the south side here is to back track to 6th Ave NW and head south from there.

Cascade Lake Park is gorgeous, and the runners use a lot of this trail. There is a parking lot on the SE side of the lake. Plan to be there early if cheering on here, as there is a little bit of walking to get to the course areas.

This area is the MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THE COURSE FOR OUR RUNNERS! Runners will be headed East on 3rd St SW, towards the highway system. They will turn RIGHT onto the W Frontage Road trail. This starts a hill that is the most difficult part of the course. Runner can use a lot of support here! Ample parking in the neighborhood streets. If you are coming from 2nd St SW, you will need to turn south onto 19th, 21st, and 23rd st. Runners cross ALL of these roads! Depending on gaps and how much runners are packed together, you will have to wait until police or volunteers wave you through to get to a parking area in the neighborhoods (parking area recommended on the South side of 3rd St). Access is also manageable by going around, but it is a bit more of a drive to go around this area.

AFTER runners get over the hill, they have a lovely downhill they take all the way down until they cross over Salem Road and reconnect with the same course they ran earlier for the last couple miles. At this point, please revisit spectator spots 2-5, and of course, make sure you get downtown for an incredible finish!

Broadway will have a road closure allowing you to see your runners on the last stretch! You can cheer your runners on as they run south on Broadway towards 4th St and turn right. You can cut across 3rd St directly to the finish line to beat them there and catch them for the finish if you choose.
